Project Gets Underway at Fort Stanton, New Mexico
Ground excavation, gravel work and installation of double depth lawn crypts has begun at the new Fort Stanton Veteran’s Cemetery. The new cemetery will provide 650 gravesites when it is completed. Wilbert Cemetery Construction is installing 510 double depth lawn crypts. Overseeing the installation and the project is Cris Wilson, Superintendent and Tyler Logan. Two locals men have been hired as laborers for the duration of the job, which will take about three weeks to complete. The double lawn crypts were manufactured at our sister plant, SI Precast Concrete Products, in Ennis, Texas.
Fort Stanton is one of four veteran cemeteries planned for New Mexico. In October 2015, the VA awarded a $5.7 million grant to build Fort Stanton. The state legislature approved $600,000 to be used to match federal funding. Three other veteran cemeteries will be built in Gallup, Carlsbad, and Angel Fire. These four new veteran cemeteries will mean that families won’t have to drive hours upon hours to visit the gravesites of their loved ones.
